Pixel Field of View

Angular field of view per pixel (IFOV) from pixel size, binning and focal length, with the Nyquist frequency and the full field across the sensor.

Model: Exact

IFOV = 2·atan(b·p / 2f) ≈ b·p / f

p = pixel pitch, b = binning, f = focal length of a lens focused at infinity

Results

Pixel IFOV26.81″
Pixel IFOV130.0 µrad
Effective pixel6.5 µm
Sensor Nyquist 1/(2bp)76.9 lp/mm
Angular Nyquist 1/(2·IFOV)3.85 cycles/mrad

Pixel IFOV vs focal length

Model and references

Exact. The equations are exact within the stated assumptions, or are a standard's tabulated values. The results are as good as the inputs. About the tiers

Lens focused at infinity, on-axis pixel: IFOV = 2·atan(b·p/2f). Off-axis pixels subtend slightly less, and distortion is ignored.
