UV Blocking Filter
UV-blocking filter: long-pass quarter-wave stacks in series reflect the UV and transmit the visible.
Mean R, 290–390 nm
98.79 %
Lowest R in the band: 69.9 %
Mean T, 420–700 nm
96.1 %
Lowest T in the band: 93.1 %
50 % point (edge)
394.2 nm
Between the blocked and transmitted bands
Stacks: 2 × 12 periods, (H/2 L H/2)N, quarter waves at λ₀ = 346.0, 322.8 nm (from the incident side)
Layers: 49
One stack reflects g = λ₀/λ in 1 ± Δg, Δg = (2/π) asin((nH − nL)/(nH + nL)) = 0.1129. K = ⌈ln(λto/λfrom) / ln((1 + Δg)/(1 − Δg))⌉ stacks with λ₀ from λfrom(1 + Δg) to λto(1 − Δg) cover the blocked band with overlapping zones. Each stack also reflects near λ₀/3.
Model and references
Exact. The equations are exact within the stated assumptions, or are a standard's tabulated values. The results are as good as the inputs. About the tiers
Transfer matrix of long-pass edge-filter stacks in series covering the blocked band; lossless constant indices (real oxides absorb in the UV), normal incidence, semi-infinite substrate. No optimization.
